Johanna Guttmann was born in Belgium, and raised in Los Angeles, but she is a true New Yorker in every sense of the word. Since her college days at Barnard College, she has embraced the City as her own: She graduated with a JD from Cardozo School of Law, and married Robert Herskowitz, with whom she has raised four children on the Upper West Side.
It was in New York that Johanna first became involved with Emunah, and came to care deeply about the organization while raising a young family. More recently, she has served on Emunah’s Executive Board, and committed countless of hours to their various efforts- a favorite is the annual organization, preparation, and delivery of Purim Mishloach Manot which she has a overseen for close to a decade. Her children's Bar and Bat Mitzvahs have all incorporated Emunah with celebrations at Bet Elazraki and Achuzat Sara. As such, Johanna has modeled and conveyed the importance of tzedaka and community involvement to her children.
Her dedication to her community is also manifest in her support of Congregation Ohav Zedek, where in addition to sponsoring events she services as an Officer.
Together with a dynamic Board of extraordinary women from communities across the US, Johanna is well-positioned to take on her new role as Emunah’s President, and looks forward to serving with dedication and distinction in the year ahead. We wish her much Hatzlacha in this endeavor!
